Vienna’s history is rich with Jewish heritage. Viennese culture is laden with legends and sagas that you can sense all around you when you are there in person. Our tour of Jewish Vienna begins at a prominent Jewish site, the Old Jewish Quarter where you will see the Jewish School, the New Synagogue, and the ruins of the medieval Synagogue. Walk along the medieval lanes to see the city’s oldest church, the nearby Ruprechtskirche.
In the building where Freud spent most of his life until he fled from the Nazis in 1938, is now the Sigmund Freud Museum, commemorating the life and work of the father of psychoanalysis. Photographs, personal effects, and antiques collected by Freud are all on display.
The Jewish Museum offers a permanent collection of valuable Judaica as well as temporary Austrian Jewish themed exhibitions. In addition to the Jewish part of the tour, see one of Europe’s most magnificent structures, the vast Schoenbrunn Palace. Once a summer home for Hapsburg royalty, it contains no less than one thousand four hundred forty-one opulent rooms and halls.
Asp part of this tour, we could include a trip to Schoenbrunn, surrounded by the parks and gardens of The Orangerie, decorated with Baroque fountains and sculptures.
