Terezin was once a military fortress town; and was converted by the Nazi occupiers into their show camp, where they pretended the Jewish people were voluntarily preparing themselves for their lives in the new Europe. Though the residents moved back after the war, much of the town's terrible legacy has been preserved. We'd visit the small fortress just outside the town, a former military prison used as to house political prisoners by the Nazis (this was also the place where assassin Gavrilo Princip spent his last days). In the town of Terezin itself you can see rooms mocked up as they would have looked in the 40s, collections of artwork done by inmates at the camp and the secret, hidden synagogue in a private ong other things.
